Plumbing Disasters

"Fatbergs" caused by poor effluent management that back up your kitchen and shut down service.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is my restaurant paying a "Sewer Surcharge" on top of my normal water bill?

Cities often apply a standard surcharge to commercial kitchens because they assume your wastewater contains high levels of solids, grease, and biological matter that cost more to treat. If your kitchen is cleaner than the "industry average," you are likely overpaying. We provide the data to prove it.

How exactly does testing lower my monthly bill?

By performing a "Surcharge Rebate Test," we measure your actual Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). If your results are lower than the City's default estimate, you can use our certified report to renegotiate your Surcharge Agreement and lower your rate.

Will the testing disrupt my dinner service?

Absolutely not. Our technicians are fast and discreet. We typically sample from your discharge point - often located in the basement or outside the building - so we rarely need to enter your active kitchen line. We are in and out in less than 30 minutes.

What happens if you find high levels of Oil & Grease?

It is better for us to find it than the City Inspector. High readings usually mean your grease trap (interceptor) is malfunctioning or full. We identify the issue privately so you can fix it before it leads to a pipe blockage or municipal fees.

How often should I test my effluent?

For surcharge agreements, typically once or twice a year is sufficient to maintain your lower rate. For grease trap compliance, we recommend quarterly checks to ensure your interceptors are working and to build a paper trail of "due diligence" in case of a future audit.
